Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steak:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large onion, sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Salisbury Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into an oval patty.
Cook the Salisbury Steaks:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for another minute to get rid of the raw flour taste.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Serve:
Return the beef patties to the skillet, spooning some of the gravy over each patty. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.
Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve hot with mashed potatoes and your choice of vegetables, like asparagus.
Enjoy your homemade Salisbury steak with onion gravy!
Enjoy!
