Story 1:
I was 18 years old and had just moved to New York City on my own, trying to adjust to the local lifestyle (coming from a small Southern town). It was my first time taking the train, and I didn’t know how to buy a MetroCard.
So I found myself standing in front of the only working machine, with a line of people behind me, trying to buy a card. I was a little panicked because I knew there were people waiting. People in the line started yelling at me, “Hurry up!” and “Are you stupid?” I started to get teary-eyed, which made my panic worse.
