Don’t waste leftover bread, I added eggs with leftover bread, and the result is impressive!
Ingredients:
1/3 cup sugar (for caramel)
1 tablespoon water (for caramel)
4 leftover bread crumbs, torn into pieces
4 eggs
1/4 cup sugar (for custard)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk
Boiling water (for baking method)
Equipment:
Heatproof pan or dish
Blender
Colander
Baking dish
Instructions:
Make the caramel:
In a small saucepan, combine 1/3 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and begins to brown.
Once sugar turns a golden caramel color, carefully pour into a saucepan or heatproof dish. Tilt dish to spread caramel evenly over bottom. Let cool and harden.
Make the bread mixture:
In a blender, combine the eggs, 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Blend until smooth. Strain the mixture to make sure it is smooth and lump-free.
