Orchids, Fertilizer Cubes, and Crowded Flowers: The Secret to Thriving Orchids No One Talks About
Orchids are known for their stunning blooms, but getting them to thrive and bloom consistently can be a challenge. One lesser-known trick involves using “fertilizer cubes” or homemade orchid food cubes, which provide essential nutrients to keep your orchids healthy, vibrant, and blooming. Pairing this technique with proper care ensures your orchids are more crowded with flowers than ever.
The Secret: Fertilizer or “Sterke” Cubes
What Are Fertilizer Cubes?
These are small nutrient-packed cubes, often homemade, designed to deliver a slow and steady release of essential nutrients like potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus. They’re especially beneficial for orchids, as they mimic the natural, minimal feeding orchids would receive in their native habitats.
How to Make Fertilizer Cubes at Home
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon orchid fertilizer (water-soluble, balanced formula like 20-20-20)
2 cups of water
Silicone ice cube tray or small molds
Instructions:
Dissolve the orchid fertilizer in the water.
Pour the solution into a silicone ice cube tray.
Freeze the tray until the cubes are solid.
Store the cubes in an airtight container in the freezer.
How to Use:
Place 1 cube in your orchid’s pot once every 2–3 weeks.
Let it melt and slowly release nutrients into the orchid medium.
