A video of a McDonald’s employee in Booval, a suburb of Ipswich, Queensland, drying a mop head—which is smaller than a fries warmer—has gone viral, causing people to express their displeasure and shock.
People have mixed feelings on the video. Some attempted to draw attention away from the issue by making jokes such, “So which is where the flavour comes from,” while others were horrified by the flagrant lack of consideration for hygiene. “That’s the most brainless issue I’ve found this year,” one reviewer said, expressing their displeasure. “I want my certification in food and sanitation basics revoked!” this woman yells.
Fast food chain McDonald’s Australia said the employee will remain in her work after being talked to by management in response to the event. The company wanted customers to know that this was only one occurrence and that they take the fundamental safety of their food products very seriously. The company has re-schooled all of its personnel on McDonald’s sanitation, cleanliness, and fundamental safety procedures for meals, and they have “taken this with the cafe immediately,” according to a spokeswoman.
Some customers still weren’t convinced, despite the company’s claims. According to another reviewer, “They utilised to delight on their own on getting a cleanse company, but that appears to have transformed,” expressing concern concerning the hygiene standards at McDonald’s restaurants.
