Two militarized police officers burst up a few moments later, their voices brimming with determination. “Sister,” they said, “has this route seen any soldiers running?”
The nun said calmly, “He went that direction.
” The soldier gingerly poked his head out from behind her skirt as the MPs bolted off. “I am eternally grateful to you, sister,” he said, his expression of appreciation clear. I fought tooth and nail to keep from being sent overseas.
