What Exactly Makes a Dish “Amish”?
How is a dish considered “Amish”? Is there a specific set of rules or guidelines for this category of food? From what I know, if a recipe’s name begins with the word “Amish,” you can almost always assume it will be delicious. That’s about it! So, this dish could be Amish, or it might not be; I’m willing to bet it doesn’t matter in the end. It is simple, affordable, and excellent.
The Amish Country Casserole is a hearty dish made with ground beef, egg noodles, tomato soup, cream of mushroom soup, and seasonings.
Feel free to substitute ground Italian sausage for the beef—it works wonderfully. Other great options include ground pork, chicken, or turkey. If you’re adding vegetables that require more time to cook, you may want to partially cook them beforehand, as this casserole’s cooking time may not be sufficient to thoroughly cook them.
