The Simple Tip: Use a Homemade Garlic and Vinegar Spray
Garlic and vinegar are powerful natural repellents that flies and cockroaches hate. Their strong odors mask the scents that attract pests, making your home uninviting to them. Here’s how to prepare and use this effective spray:
Ingredients You’ll Need
5–6 garlic cloves , peeled and crushed
1 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1 cup water
Optional : A few drops of essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, or tea tree oil for added potency
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Mixture
Crush the garlic cloves using a knife or garlic press to release their natural oils.
Place the crushed garlic in a jar or bowl and pour the vinegar over it. Let the mixture sit for 15–20 minutes to infuse.
Add water to dilute the mixture slightly, making it easier to spray. If using essential oils, add a few drops for extra repellent power.
Step 2: Strain and Transfer
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove garlic pieces.
Transfer the liquid into a spray bottle for easy application.
Step 3: Apply Around the House
Spray the solution generously around areas where flies and cockroaches are commonly found, such as:
Entry points : Windowsills, doorways, cracks, and crevices.
Kitchens and pantries : Near sinks, countertops, and food storage areas.
Bathrooms and basements : Damp, dark spaces that attract pests.
Pay special attention to corners, baseboards, and other hiding spots.
