There has been some encouraging progress, including a 2018 trial conducted by the University of Pennsylvania. The trial demonstrated that dental tissue can be generated from stem cells from baby teeth ( 5 , 6 ). However, most experts agree that it is still too early to consider dental pulp stem cells as a source of cells to replace or regenerate tissue. But the potential is there, as scientists already know that dental pulp can make bone. As more research is conducted, we may get closer to the true potential of this young technology.
