According to Ayurveda, if you mix vegetables that digest at different rates, it could cause gastric fermentation and maybe contamination of other areas of the body. There is a muddled digestive mix because faster-digesting veggies, like tomatoes, are metabolized before slower-digesting ones, like cucumbers.
According to Ayurveda, salad components should have similar digestion times to promote healthy digestion. In this way, the body’s energy may be better used for digestion and nutritional absorption.
If you want to avoid gastrointestinal issues like gas, bloating, or discomfort, it’s best to avoid eating tomatoes and cucumbers together.
Additionally, stay away from other meal combinations that might make digestion take longer. Some foods may impede digestion, such as fruits eaten too soon after a meal or macaroni and cheese (or meat) mixed together. Also, try not to consume too much protein at once, such eating many kinds of meat or cheese at the same meal.
