Instructions:
Prepare the Crust:
In a medium bowl, combine the crushed vanilla wafer crumbs and melted butter. Stir until well combined and the crumbs are moistened.
Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Place the crust in the refrigerator while you prepare the other layers to help it set.
Make the Cream Cheese Layer:
In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Gently fold in half (about 4 ounces) of the thawed whipped topping until no streaks remain.
Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled vanilla wafer crust.
Make the Pudding Layer:
In a separate large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for about 2-3 minutes, until the pudding starts to thicken.
Let it sit for 5 minutes to fully set.
Assemble the Lush:
Banana Layer: Arrange a single layer of sliced bananas over the cream cheese layer in the baking dish.
Pudding Layer: Carefully spread the prepared vanilla pudding evenly over the banana slices.
Final Whipped Topping Layer: Spread the remaining half (about 4 ounces) of the thawed whipped topping over the top of the pudding layer.
Chill:
Cover the baking dish loosely with plastic wrap.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set completely and the flavors to meld.
Garnish and Serve:
Just before serving, you can optionally garnish the top with a few whole vanilla wafers or a few fresh banana slices (tossed lightly in lemon juice to prevent browning, if desired).
Cut into squares and serve cold.
