This natural powder, composed of abrasive micro-particles , destroys the bedbugs’ shells, dehydrating them in a few hours. Sprinkle it under beds, along baseboards and in suspicious areas.
Caution: Use food-grade diatomaceous earth to avoid respiratory risks .
Garlic and essential oils as repellents
The strong smell of garlic and certain essential oils ( lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus ) disturbs bedbugs and disrupts their orientation .
Recipe for a bedbug spray:
- Mix 25 ml of lavender essential oil , 50 ml of tea tree oil and 1 liter of water .
- Spray on linens, mattresses and suspicious corners.
High temperature washing
Wash your sheets, clothes and curtains at a minimum of 60°C to kill eggs and larvae . If possible, tumble dry them on a hot setting .
Good to know: Place infested items in an airtight plastic bag and freeze them for 48 hours to kill the bedbugs by freezing them.
Seal all hiding places
Bedbugs love cracks and gaps . Seal holes in walls, repair baseboards , and attach bedbug-proof mattress covers.
Preventing re-infestation
- Regularly vacuum sensitive areas ( mattress, sofa, carpet ).
- Do not bring back used furniture without carefully inspecting it.
- Check your luggage after a hotel stay or train/bus journey.
- Use bedbug-proof covers to protect your mattresses and pillows.
