Why is this riddle so difficult?

This type of illusion plays on selective perception: our brain naturally filters information by favoring what seems most obvious. Here, the imposing presence of the horse attracts our attention and masks the silhouette of the jockey. Some will only see the man after several minutes of observation, while others will spot him in a few seconds.
