Preheat oven to 300°F. Cream together the sugar and butter until well blended.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until the mixture is smooth. Add the vanilla, salt, and flour.
Gradually beat in the buttermilk until fully combined.
Place the pie shell on a foil-lined baking sheet. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the pie shell, filling it to the top. Pour any excess into an ungreased custard cup.
Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool before serving. Store covered in the fridge. Enjoy!
