The shooting occurred early in the morning, and Ronald Clark, a youth minister and chaplain, rushed to the school to offer his assistance to the police and emergency responders. Describing the scene as “challenging,” Clark expressed his struggle to support everyone affected by the chaos and trauma of the incident.

While assisting at the command post, Clark was approached by Schermerhorn’s mother, who was frantically searching for her son. She had received a text from him saying he was in the restroom. Sadly, after showing Mason’s picture to officials, it was confirmed that he was among the four fatalities.
