Instructions:
* Steam the broccoli: Steam the broccoli florets until tender-crisp. Drain and let cool slightly.
* Mash the broccoli: In a large bowl, mash the steamed broccoli with a fork or potato masher until it’s mostly smooth.
* Mix in cheese and seasonings: Add the shredded cheddar cheese, bread crumbs, flour, milk, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed broccoli. Mix well until everything is combined.
* Shape into balls: Using your hands, shape the mixture into small balls. You can wet your hands with a little water to prevent sticking.
* Bread the balls: Place the flour in one bowl, the beaten egg in another, and the bread crumbs in a third. Dredge each ball in the flour, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with bread crumbs.
* Fry the balls: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the balls into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
* Drain and serve: Remove the balls from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce or ranch dressing.
