Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
2. Prepare the Filling:
In a bowl, mix together the cooked chicken, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Add fresh basil if using, and stir until well combined.
3. Roll Out the Dough:
On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle or oval, about 1/4 inch thick.
4. Fill the Calzone:
Spoon the chicken Parmesan mixture onto one half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Be careful not to overfill.
5. Seal the Calzone:
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Pinch and fold the edges to seal the calzone tightly.
6. Egg Wash and Topping:
Brush the top of the calzone with the beaten egg. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and a little Italian seasoning on top.
7. Bake:
Place the calzone on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
8. Serve:
Let the calzone cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
