Self-watering seed starter pots are another great do-it-yourself project for people who love plants. They’re especially useful if you forget to water your plants at the right times.

Things used:

• Plastic containers that are clear, like used yogurt tubs
• Old cloth strips or cotton rope
• Soil for plants
• Plants from seeds

What to do:

1. Getting the Container Ready: Punch a small hole in the bottom of your plastic container.
2. Making the wick: Put a cotton rope or cloth strip through the hole, making sure one end stays inside the container and the other end hangs out.
3. Putting It Together: Fill the pot with potting soil and put your seedling inside.
4. Method of Watering: Set the pot on top of a bowl of water. The end of the rope or cloth that hangs down will soak up water, pulling it up into the pot and keeping the soil wet.
