The dish sponge in particular should be replaced and disinfected frequently, at least every 2 to 3 weeks. This will reduce the bacterial load and allow it to be used properly.
In fact, microbiological studies have shown that most of the bacteria found in sponges belong to the Enterobacteriaceae family, which forms the human commensal microbiome and is therefore not dangerous.
However, the border with the pathogen is not as thick as it might seem. In reality, the presence of germs in a sponge should not be underestimated and at the same time, it should not be ruled out that dangerous bacteria can also be found in it.
