Over the years, Elton John has had many close encounters with death.
The five-time Grammy winner, who in July 2024 celebrated 34 years of sobriety, had a really close call in 2013 when he had appendicitis and continued his European tour while in “agony.”
“I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time,” the now 77-year-old singer said.
And then he had life-threatening complications following surgery for prostate cancer in 2017.
“I didn’t really know how close to death I was,” John, then 72, said of the frightening moment. “I was ill because I kept saying, ‘Please let me get well. I want to see my kids.’ But I had tubes coming out of every part of my body, and it took me seven weeks to recover from that when I went home.”
