Classic Salisbury steak is topped with mushroom and onion sauce and ready in just 30 minutes!
One of those convenient dishes that never goes out of style. Quick to prepare, inexpensive and appreciated by children and adults alike! This homemade version is MUCH better than what you usually find in the grocery store freezer.
The first step in making Salisbury steak is shaping your cuts of meat.I like to use 90% lean ground beef because it has lots of flavor but isn’t too fatty. The meat is mixed with breadcrumbs and spices, then shaped into oval steaks.
The patties are cooked until golden brown, then a simple sauce is made with onions, mushrooms, beef broth and a little cornstarch as a thickener. I usually use white button mushrooms, but other types of mushrooms like cremini mushrooms are also a great choice. I make it easier by buying pre-sliced mushrooms to save preparation time.
