Just like panties, bras have a limited lifespan. If the risks of infections are lower because it is a less sensitive area, another disadvantage exists (and not the least): discomfort. Indeed, if your bra is no longer pleasant to wear, your straps are constantly slipping off your shoulders and the underwire hurts, it is time to change it. “So lack of comfort is a clear sign that it’s time to buy a new bra. Even if your bra has no obvious defects, it may need to be replaced, simply due to wear and tear,” we can read on the website of Prima Donna, an Italian lingerie brand. So the more you wear and wash your bra, the more it will wear out. “If you follow the correct washing instructions, your bra will last for years,” the brand specifies.

When should you wash and change your underwear?
Although it may seem obvious, remember that underwear absolutely must be changed every day. Panties, boxer briefs and socks are in direct contact with the skin and can therefore cause bad odors due to perspiration or even infections. Unlike stockings, bras can be reused a second time if certain conditions are met. You can wear the same bra “two days in a row, as long as you take it off for several hours in between to allow the bra to relax,” says dermatologist Alok Vij on the Cleveland Clinic website. On the other hand, when you carry out a sporting activity, “it is essential to take care of your sports bra” and wash it after each sports session to get rid of the odors and the perspiration that has settled in the fibers of your bra.
