If you’ve stocked up on lemons during the summer and don’t want them to spoil before you can use them, here’s how to keep them fresh! Have you tried these essential lemon preservation hacks? From water immersion to making lemon-infused salt, these tricks will keep your lemons from going bad.
1. In Ice Cube Trays
Take two or three lemons, grate the zest, and then juice them. Pour both the zest and juice into the compartments of an ice cube tray. Freeze until solid. Then, transfer the cubes to a sealable glass container or silicone freezer bag and return to the freezer. You’ll always have ready-to-use lemon juice and zest!
2. Using a Toothpick
Need just a small amount of juice? Don’t cut the lemon in half. Instead, poke a hole in it with a toothpick and squeeze out only the juice you need. This keeps the lemon whole and fresh much longer in the fridge.
3. Storing in Water
To keep whole lemons fresh longer in the fridge:
Place them in a sealable glass container.
Fill it with water to cover the lemons completely.
Seal the container and store it in the fridge for 2–3 days.
If the lemon is already cut:
Place the cut side face down in a small dish filled with water and store in the fridge.
This helps preserve the pulp.
