When Lauren comes home from her shift at the hospital, she expects to have a quiet evening with her family. Instead, she finds strange things going on around her house, like spilled cups, misplaced silverware, and other odd occurrences….
Yesterday was going to be an ordinary day. As a nurse, after a hard 12-hour shift at the hospital, all I wanted was a quiet night and a long bath. Coming home felt like coming home, making myself a cup of tea, and relaxing for a while before diving into the chaos of dinner and bedtime with the kids.

But what I encountered completely destroyed my sense of security.
When I got back, it was eerily quiet in the house. My husband was out with the kids for their sports practice, so I was looking forward to being alone for a while before the noise would increase when the kids got home.
I set my bag on the counter and turned on the kettle to heat. Meanwhile, I grabbed my favorite mug from the cupboard. I got it from my daughter Summer, who wrote “World’s Okay-est Mom” on it.
But when I opened the box, I froze.
“What is this?” I mumbled.
But then again, this is how we’ve never categorized our dishes before.
“Actually, Lauren…” I remember.
I had only seen this once before.
“Shit,” I said, suddenly hyper-aware of my surroundings.
As I began to feel more and more uncomfortable, I decided to inspect the rest of the kitchen.
