He fumbled with the change, and his hands shook as he endeavored to accumulate enough money to cover the bill.
Feeling the weight of the busy queue behind him, he glanced back at Bowlin with a regretful expression and whispered, “I’m terribly sorry.”
Bowlin could perceive the man’s frustration and embarrassment as he persistently counted and recounted his change.
She could also discern that his hands were trembling not solely due to his age but also due to the stress of delaying everyone.
The situation could have easily turned awkward, but what followed astonished Bowlin and all those present.
