Ingredients:
1 lb (450 g) shrimp, steamed and peeled (you can have the seafood department steam and season them for you)
⅓ cup (40 g) finely chopped celery
¼ cup (30 g) finely chopped onion
¼ cup (60 g) mayonnaise
1 Tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
1 tsp (5 g) Old Bay seasoning
Instructions:
Prepare the Shrimp:
If the shrimp are not pre-cooked, steam and peel them. You can also have your seafood department steam and season them for you for convenience.
Mix the Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the shrimp, finely chopped celery, finely chopped onion, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning.
Toss to Combine:
Gently toss everything together until the shrimp is evenly coated with the mayonnaise mixture and the flavors are well combined.
Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate the shrimp salad for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled, either as a sandwich, on a bed of greens, or with crackers.
Key Notes:
Shrimp Selection: Use fresh, peeled, and deveined shrimp. Steaming or poaching the shrimp enhances their natural sweetness.
Old Bay Seasoning: This iconic spice mix is essential for authentic Maryland flavor. Adjust the amount based on your spice preference.
Dressing: A blend of mayonnaise, lemon juice, and mustard forms the creamy base. For lighter options, substitute some mayo with Greek yogurt.
Additions: Common additions include celery, onion, and dill. Optional ingredients like hard-boiled eggs or a touch of hot sauce can personalize the recipe.
Serving Style: Serve it chilled for the best flavor.
Tips:
Avoid Overcooking Shrimp: Cook shrimp just until they turn pink and opaque to maintain a tender texture.
Chill Before Serving: Allow the salad to chill in the fridge for at least an hour to let the flavors meld.
Customizable: Add diced avocado, cucumber, or capers for unique twists.
Pairing: Serve on a bed of lettuce, in a sandwich, or with crackers for a versatile dish.
Servings:
This recipe is flexible and can serve:
As an appetizer: Serves 4–6.
As a main dish: Serves 2–4.
Enjoy!
