Despite initial reservations, Zeleny-Floro couldn’t ignore the call for help. After a lengthy conversation with a nurse experienced in adopting special-needs children, the couple decided to take the child into their home.
Brought into a family already facing the challenges of autism, the baby, named Charles, presented unique hurdles. With no femur bones, no hips, and double amniotic bands around both feet, he posed a significant challenge for the Floro family. Zeleny-Floro, initially terrified, questioned her ability to handle the situation.
The subsequent months were an emotional rollercoaster, marked by constant crying, frequent illnesses, and numerous medical appointments.
