He didn’t understand much about life, or about the cruelty that it could sometimes bring, but one thing was clear: he was alone. The soft cries that had once summoned a gentle embrace, the warm scent of his mother’s skin, the reassuring heartbeat he had known since the very beginning—these were now just distant memories, fading with each passing moment.
