Annonce:

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Icing sugar, for dusting (optional)

Directions:

  1. Prep the Baking Dish: Generously butter a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the bread slices in the dish in two rows, overlapping if necessary.
  2. Mix the Custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and lemon zest until fully combined.
  3. Assemble: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Scatter the blueberries over the top, sneaking some between the slices as well.
  4. Refrigerate Overnight: Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. This allows the bread to soak up the egg mixture, resulting in a more custardy texture after baking.
  5. Bake: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Remove the plastic wrap and bake the French toast for 45-50 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and set.
  6. Serve: Let it cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar if using, and serve warm.
