Using White Vinegar to Neutralize Odors
White vinegar is an excellent natural deodorizer. There are two methods to effectively eliminate musty odors:
In the washing machine : add a cup of white vinegar to the fabric softener compartment and run a regular wash cycle.
Pre-wash : Soak towels in a basin of hot water with a cup of white vinegar for an hour before machine washing.
Don’t overuse detergent
Excess detergent can leave residue on towels, which promotes the proliferation of odor-causing bacteria. It’s best to use a moderate amount of detergent and avoid fabric softener, which coats the fibers and reduces their absorbency.
Dry immediately after washing
Leaving damp towels in the machine after washing promotes the formation of mold. As soon as the cycle is finished, it is advisable to hang them outside immediately, preferably in a well-ventilated and sunny place.
Store towels in a dry place
Once clean and dry, towels should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated closet. To prevent moisture, you can place a bag of baking soda or a small bag of lavender in the closet.
With these simple and natural tips, towels regain their freshness and softness, without bad odors or harsh chemicals. Regular maintenance guarantees their longevity and daily comfort.
