The well-crafted plan
A few months earlier, my mother— who had never trusted my ex —had helped me finance the house. But not just anyhow. Thanks to a contract, she had secured exclusive use of the property. A detail that Sylvain, too busy savoring his “victory,” had completely overlooked.
The turnaround
The next day, as I was enjoying my coffee in my new apartment, Sylvain called me. His voice was unrecognizable:
“Your mother is in my house! She controls everything!”
I simply replied calmly,
“Remember the contract? She has every right to live there as she sees fit.”
A new life, real freedom
The highlight? My mother’s voice, a dry tone , interrupting to remind him that the couch wasn’t a campsite, and frozen meals didn’t constitute a meal. I’d never enjoyed a cup of coffee so much. That day, I understood that freedom wasn’t about possessing, but about letting go. And finding, finally, peace.
A lesson to meditate on
Sometimes letting go of what’s weighing us down is about regaining control of our lives. What some might see as a loss can actually be a quiet but powerful victory. Like a game of chess where every move has been carefully planned.
