On-Set Danger and Recovery
Griffith’s acting career began to rise in the 1970s with roles in films like “Night Moves” and “Joyride.” However, one of her most infamous moments came on the set of “Roar” in 1981, a film her mother and stepfather were involved in, which featured real lions. During filming, Griffith was mauled near the eye by a lioness, an incident that required plastic surgery and could have cost her sight. Despite the terrifying ordeal, she continued to act, landing a role in “Working Girl” in 1988, which earned her an Academy Award nomination.
Multiple Marriages and Family Struggles
Griffith’s personal life has been as eventful as her career. After her first marriage to Johnson ended, she married actor Steven Bauer in 1981, with whom she had a son, Alexander Bauer. They divorced in 1989, and she remarried Johnson, resulting in the birth of their daughter, Dakota Johnson, who would later become a successful actress herself. The couple divorced again in 1996. Griffith’s third marriage was to actor Antonio Banderas in 1996. The pair met on the set of “Two Much” and quickly fell in love. Together, they had a daughter, Stella, and Banderas also became a devoted stepfather to Alexander and Dakota, who affectionately call him “Paponio,” a blend of “Papa” and “Antonio.”
