Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, and spray with nonstick spray.
- Arrange crackers: Place saltines in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Make the toffee:
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil and stir constantly for 3–4 minutes until thickened and caramel-colored.
- Pour over crackers: Spread the toffee evenly over the saltines.
- Bake: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
- Add chocolate: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let sit for 2–3 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate evenly with a spatula.
- Top it off: Sprinkle with nuts, sea salt, or sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft.
- Cool and break: Let the toffee cool completely (you can refrigerate it to speed up the process). Once hardened, break into pieces.
