Introduction
Clogged drains are a common household issue, and dealing with blockages in the pipes can be both frustrating and inconvenient. While chemical drain cleaners can be effective, they often contain harsh ingredients that can damage your pipes over time. Fortunately, there’s a natural, eco-friendly solution that’s just as effective and much safer for your plumbing. This homemade remedy can help clear minor blockages and keep your pipes running smoothly without the need for expensive store-bought chemicals.
Ingredients
1 cup of baking soda
1 cup of white vinegar
1 pot of boiling water
A clean cloth or rag
Instructions
Clear the Drain Area:
Begin by removing any visible debris or food particles from the drain. If you’re dealing with a sink, make sure it’s empty before proceeding.
Apply the Baking Soda:
Pour 1 cup of baking soda directly into the clogged drain. You can use a funnel or simply pour it in slowly to ensure it’s evenly distributed.
Add the Vinegar:
After the baking soda, pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the drain. You’ll hear a fizzing sound as the two ingredients react, which helps break down the grease, grime, and blockages inside your pipes.
Cover the Drain:
Quickly cover the drain with a clean cloth or rag to trap the fizzing action inside the pipe. Allow the mixture to sit for 10-15 minutes for optimal results.
Flush with Boiling Water:
After waiting, carefully pour 1 pot of boiling water down the drain. This will flush out any remaining debris and help clear the pipes.
