Elizabeth Francis, who turned 115 years old, has witnessed a century of history, from the sinking of the Titanic to the presidency of Donald Trump. Born in 1909 in Louisiana, Francis is now the oldest living American, a title she assumed in February following the passing of Edie Ceccarelli at age 116.
Living with her 95-year-old daughter, Dorothy Williams, and cared for by her granddaughter Ethel Harrison, Francis has lived a life marked by simplicity and family. She never learned to drive, opting instead to walk or take the bus. Her long life, she believes, is due to speaking her mind and not holding back.
