Directions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Pan:
    • Place the oven rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 425°F (220°C).
    • Line a large, shallow baking pan (about 17 by 12 inches) with aluminum foil. Lightly oil the foil to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Marinade:
    • Mince the garlic and mash it into a paste with the salt using a large heavy knife or the side of the knife blade.
    • Transfer the garlic paste to a large mixing bowl. Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sesame oil, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients into a smooth marinade.
  3. Marinate the Chicken Wings:
    • Add the chicken wingettes to the bowl with the marinade. Stir to coat the wings thoroughly with the sauce mixture. Allow them to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes, or longer if you have more time.
  4. Roast the Wings:
    • Arrange the marinated wings in a single layer in the prepared baking pan. Roast in the preheated oven, turning the wings over once halfway through cooking, for about 35 minutes or until they are fully cooked and have a crispy, golden-brown exterior.
  5. Finish and Serve:
    • Transfer the roasted wings to a large serving bowl. Sprinkle the wings with toasted sesame seeds and finely chopped scallion. Toss gently to coat evenly.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the wings hot, garnished with extra scallions if desired. They are perfect as an appetizer or a main dish for gatherings.
