Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, and powdered sugar. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
- Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow it to cool while you prepare the custard.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens.
- In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the beaten eggs, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
- Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining hot milk mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the vanilla custard over the cooled crust in the baking pan.
- Allow the custard bars to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully set.
- Once set, cut into squares, serve, and relish the heavenly taste of Vanilla Custard Bars!
