This type of meme has no scientific basis. It is based on our need to understand ourselves, to situate ourselves in relation to others, and on the effect of suggestion: “If you see 8 circles, you are narcissistic.”

These statements are often vague and could apply to anyone. This is what is known as the Barnum effect: a tendency to recognize oneself in general, even banal, descriptions, presented as personalized.

Should we avoid this kind of content?

Not necessarily. These memes are playful, stimulate our curiosity and can even provoke interesting exchanges. The important thing is to take them for what they are: entertainment, not diagnostics.

If you have serious doubts or questions about your behavior or mental health, the only valid reflex is to consult a professional. Neither an optical illusion nor an online quiz can replace reliable medical advice.

What this meme really teaches us…
This test does not measure narcissism. But it reveals our desire to get to know ourselves better, to compare ourselves to others, or simply to distract ourselves with lightness.

It also shows that psychology has become an accessible, sometimes even fun, subject in the age of social networks.

So, how many circles have you seen? I don’t care. What matters is to remember that our personality is much richer and more nuanced than a simple visual shared online.
