Ingredients:

  • 1 thin crust pizza dough (handmade or purchased)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup bell peppers, sliced
  • ½ cup black olives, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Sauté the diced onions until translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Season with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the sliced bell peppers and black olives (if using). Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and cook for a few more minutes until everything is well combined.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle approximately 10 by 14 inches.
  6. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  7. Starting from the longest side, carefully roll the dough into a jelly roll. Pinch the ends together and place seam side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Use a knife to make a few small slits on top of the bread to allow steam to escape.
  9. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the top of the bread for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Allow the Garbage Bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
