Finley Downer, an eight-year-old, was vacationing with his family in The Bahamas when the traumatic incident transpired during an excursion to Compass Cay.
Finley’s family, which consisted of his father Michael, 44, and his siblings Emily, 12, and Lily, nine, had set out on the journey, which also involved swimming with piglets.
The incident occurred when vacationers began flinging food remnants into the water, which attracted a group of nurse sharks, according to Finley’s mother Kerry, 40, who is divorced from Mr. Downer. The Guardian reported that Finley, unaware of the potential peril, entered the water as part of the excursion, only to be mercilessly attacked by the sharks.
