Tips If You Accidentally Add Too Much Salt While Cooking
Accidentally adding too much salt to your food can be frustrating, but there are several ways to balance the taste and reduce the saltiness. While many people immediately add more water to dilute the salt, there are other methods you can try to salvage the dish.
1. Use Vinegar or Fresh Lemon Juice
A small amount of rice vinegar or fresh lemon juice can help neutralize the salty taste of a dish. However, avoid using this method in dairy-based dishes (such as creamy soups or sauces) because the acidity from the vinegar or lemon juice could cause the milk to curdle, altering the texture and flavor.
2. Use Egg Whites
For soups and stews, you can use egg whites to absorb excess salt. Crack an egg, separate the egg white (without beating it), and add it directly to the pot. Allow the water to boil for about 5 minutes, then scoop out the egg white. It will absorb some of the saltiness, helping balance the flavor. Adjust the amount of egg white based on the quantity of food.
