The siphon is very useful. It prevents small objects from getting into the main drain, which is responsible for draining water from the machine through the drain hose. If your washing machine isn’t draining properly or you notice a sock or button is missing, consider taking a look at the siphon to inspect and clean it if necessary. This is an easy task and will only take a few moments.
Identify the small door that is usually located at the bottom of the washing machine and pull it towards you. Otherwise, you may need a screwdriver. Once this is done, you will have access to the siphon plug. Place a small cup under the lid and gently turn the cap counterclockwise to prevent the water from suddenly flowing out. This will allow the water to end up in the cup and you can check if there is any blockage in the appliance.

After letting the water run, remove the filter and shake it to remove anything that may be trapped. This could be debris, a sock, coins or other small objects. You can then put everything back in its place and close the small door at the bottom of the washing machine.
