Over time, the towels we use daily can start to smell bad, turn yellow, or acquire stains that are difficult to remove. This happens because, being moist and in constant contact with the skin, they accumulate soap residues, body grease, moisture and bacteria. In addition, frequent use of commercial fabric softeners can make the situation worse, as these products coat the fibers and reduce their ability to absorb and release water properly.
Luckily, there are natural and economical solutions that can restore your towels to their original freshness, whiteness and softness, without the need for harsh chemicals.
5 Natural Ingredients for Washing and Whitening Towels Naturally
White vinegar
It acts as a natural disinfectant, eliminates bad odors and softens the fibers. You just have to add a cup to the wash cycle (without detergent). You can also do a pre-wash with hot water and vinegar to intensify the effect.
Baking soda
Excellent for neutralizing odors, removing stains and removing detergent residues. Use in conjunction with vinegar or on a separate cycle. Place half a cup in the washing drum and activate with hot water.
Lemon juice
Its natural acidity acts as a mild bleach. Ideal for yellowish spots or gray areas. Squeeze 2 or 3 lemons in hot water, let the towels soak for an hour and then wash them as usual.
Hydrogen peroxide (3% hydrogen peroxide)
Effective at disinfecting and rinsing without damaging the fibers. Add half a cup in the main wash or use it to treat spot spots before washing.
