His innocence led him to a heartbreaking act: every day, he would sit by the coffin, trying to regain this bond that had been broken too soon. His story has deeply moved the entire world.
A heartbreaking tragedy
Khayne Kheian Naelgas Castro, a little boy from the Philippines, lost his mother in dramatic circumstances. She died while giving birth to his younger brother, Cyril Khayzer Castro. What should have been a moment of joy turned into an unspeakable ordeal for the family. But the hardest part was Khayne’s incomprehension in the face of this loss.
At age 5, the concept of death was abstract. He saw his mother lying peacefully in a coffin and believed she was sleeping. Day after day, he waited for her to wake up, hoping she would take him in her arms again.
