A clean, fresh bed is essential for restful sleep and good hygiene. However, between perspiration, dead cells, dust mites and bacteria, bedding can quickly become a veritable nest of germs if it is not maintained regularly. So, how often should you wash your sheets and other bed items?
Wash your sheets once a week
It is recommended to change and wash your sheets at least once a week . This helps remove sweat, dead skin and other residue that accumulates each night. In hot weather or if you sweat a lot, it is best to wash them every three to four days .
Use the right washing temperature
To effectively kill bacteria and mites, it is recommended to wash sheets at a temperature between 55 and 65°C . Hot water helps eliminate microorganisms and naturally disinfect textiles.
Dry your sheets outside if possible
Exposure to sunlight is an effective way to kill bacteria and dust mites. If you can’t dry them outside, use a dryer on high heat to ensure complete drying and avoid moisture that encourages mold growth.
