Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is related to metabolic disorders, refers to the accumulation of fat in the liver. Experts do not fully understand why some people develop fatty liver disease while others do not.
However, you are more likely to develop this condition if you are overweight or obese, have diabetes, high cholesterol and triglycerides, high blood pressure, or have chronic hepatitis C and other liver infections.
Most people with this type of fatty liver disease are middle-aged, but the condition can occur in anyone, even children.
Most of the time, the disease has no symptoms. This is why many people with the condition may not even realize they have it. However, some individuals may experience pain or a feeling of fullness in the middle or right side of the abdomen, or they may feel extremely fatigued.
Unlike other liver diseases, fatty liver disease related to metabolic disorders does not cause permanent damage to the organ. Therefore, you can take steps to reverse this condition before it becomes a more serious problem.
