Step 1: Prepare the Patties
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns (they’ll shrink as they cook).
Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Cook the Burgers
Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F/71°C).
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each patty to melt.
Step 3: Toast the Buns
Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the skillet or in a toaster for added texture and flavor.
Step 4: Assemble the Burgers
Spread a spoonful of marinara sauce on the bottom half of each bun.
Place the cheesy burger patty on top of the sauce.
Add a slice of pepperoni (if using) and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
Garnish with fresh basil for a pop of color and flavor.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
