Emily Gold, a dancer and contestant on America’s Got Talent, tragically passed away on Friday, September 13. Her death has been confirmed by the San Bernardino Coroner’s Office as a suicide.
California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez stated that officers responded to the incident at approximately 11:52 p.m. “When officers arrived, they located a 17-year-old female who had been struck by at least one vehicle in the carpool lane of the eastbound 210 freeway,” Jimenez reported. “She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Reports suggest that Gold may have jumped from an overpass, landing on the freeway below in Rancho Cucamonga, California. While her death is being investigated as a suicide, TMZ noted that no suicide note was found.
Earlier this year, Gold gained national recognition when her high school dance team competed on America’s Got Talent, reaching the quarterfinals. Judge Simon Cowell praised their performance, calling it “absolutely brilliant” and highlighting the team’s energy. “I think what I just saw is everything a great school should be doing, which is encouraging talent and friendship,” Cowell said, comparing the performance to something out of High School Musical.
