The ingenious trick to prevent potatoes from sprouting at home | June 28, 2025

Let’s assume you’ve    bought healthy potatoes with   a smooth, even skin  —a   fresh    , not-too-old tuber. These are already conditions that can put your mind at ease. However, to prevent germination later, take a few small precautions:

 

1. Place an    apple    between the potatoes and, of course, increase the number of apples if the amount of potatoes is too large (the ethylene contained in the apples prevents the potatoes from sprouting).
2. Use a suitable container that    promotes perspiration. Wicker baskets yes, plastic no.
3. Store potatoes in    the dark  , as light promotes germination.
